Glenorchy City Council hosted the annual Anglicare Gifting Tree. Many members of the community donated gifts for the tree, which were presented to Anglicare in late December 2018.
Anglicare’s Margaret Savage also accepted cheques from the Lions Club of Glenorchy for $1000 and the Leos for $500.
Anglicare distributed the donations to families and individuals of all ages in the Glenorchy municipality.
Ms Savage said Christmas can be a tough time for many in our community.
"We are shining a light in our local community," she said.
“All of us need connection, to know that we are not alone and that we are valued and loved. We love distributing the gifts and offering hope in this way.
GCC Community Engagement Officer Di McGuinness said the Council Gifting Tree has been an annual tradition for many, many years and was generously supported by Glenorchy Lions and Leo’s who provide cash and toy donations and Lions Christmas cakes and puddings.
“Leo members shop for gifts that morning and bring in trolley loads of gifts to help bring joy to families over Christmas,” she said.
“Christmas is such a heart-warming time for most people but for those families and children who are enduring tough times, it can be heart breaking so any help we can give them, is vital.
