Positive ageing is important to us all. It means living a fulfilled life that sees us happy, healthy, independent and socially engaged as we age. The proportion of older people in the Glenorchy Local Government Area is increasing, as it is for the rest of Tasmania and Australia. It is essential to prepare and plan for this major change to our community and, as such, Glenorchy City Council has developed a Positive Ageing Strategy in recognition of the opportunities and challenges of an ageing population. The Glenorchy City Council aims to provide an age-friendly community with opportunities for health, community participation, personal security, and enhanced quality of life as people age. The Council recognises the importance of adapting its infrastructure and services to be accessible to, and inclusive of, older people with varying needs.
The Glenorchy Positive Ageing Strategy is a 5-year plan which:
- Explores the City's population profile and trends;
- Identifes priority areas for action;
- Contains proactive plans for managing the impacts of population ageing;
- Contains whole-of-community strategies.
