Announcements by the Chair
The Mayor acknowledged the impact of recent natural disasters affecting communities in Nepal, and provided an update on the Glenorchy War Memorial Pool reopening and the continued success of programs delivered through the Glenorchy Youth Hub.
The Mayor also shared updates on the Full Gear Program, an elected member visit to the Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania (RAST) site, the Glenorchy Jobs Hub, and the opening of the Indie School kitchen. Book Week activities, the Y Glenorchy Table Tennis Competition, and the Hobart Malayali Association’s Onavillu 2026 celebrations were also acknowledged.
Council’s ongoing housing advocacy, including meetings with Federal representatives, was noted alongside the 2026 Federal Hospitality Partner Awards, the launch of ticket sales for Variety’s Carols by Candlelight, the Big Tassie Walk, and the Krishna Janmashtami 2026 Festival.
The Mayor also highlighted recent community planting activities at Tolosa Park and advised that the next Open Workshop, on 7 September, will include presentations on the Tasmanian Transport Museum and the Bike Collective.
Policies update: Asset Management
Council adopted a revised Asset Management Policy. The policy provides the framework for managing Council’s assets to support service delivery and long-term financial sustainability.
Climate Change Mitigation Action Plan Progress Update
Council received the annual progress update on the implementation of its Climate Change Mitigation Action Plan. The report outlined achievements during 2025–26, including continued delivery of the Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) service, education initiatives to reduce food waste, and further transition of Council’s fleet towards electric vehicles. Council also endorsed a letter of support for the City of Sydney’s motion through the Australian Local Government Association calling for a National Climate Compensation Fund.
Procurement Exemption
Council noted an approved procurement exemption for the continued engagement of Civil Survey Solutions for Civil 3D (AutoCAD) and Civil Site Design software licences for a further two years. The exemption supports continuity of service and ongoing access to specialist software used by Council officers.
Proceeds of Property Disposal Policy Annual Report
Council received the annual report on the operation of the Proceeds of Property Disposal Policy for the period 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026. The report provides transparency regarding the use and management of funds generated from property disposal activities.
Financial Performance Report
Council received the financial performance report to 31 July 2026, providing an update on Council’s financial position at the commencement of the 2026–27 financial year.
Closed Meeting Items
During the closed portion of the meeting, Council received reports relating to Audit Panel meeting minutes, a contract extension for banking services, future procurement arrangements for the Lutana Materials Recovery Facility, and the CEO Performance and Remuneration Review.
