Mayor Kristie Johnston attended the ANZAC day commemorations for schools on Tuesday 10 April  2018 at Claremont. Several schools, both primary and high school, attended the event and marched to the cenotaph. The crowd was estimated to be about 500.

The event was organised by Claremont RSL and Claremont College Australian Defence Force students.

Mayor Kristie Johnston said it was a moving ceremony aimed at engaging young people.

Several wreaths were laid by students, politicians and the Mayor.

The Royal Australian Navy provided a bugler for the service, who is the leader of the Royal Australian Navy Band Tasmanian Detachment.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."
