Road improvement works at Bowden Street, Glenorchy – between Windsor Street and Fairfax Road
From 2 November 2020, Downer EDI Works Pty Ltd have been contracted by Council to undertake road improvement works along Bowden Street, between Fairfax Road and Windsor Street.
Works include construction of a new retaining wall, road widening, reseal, associated stormwater footpath upgrades. See map of works below.
Why are the works happening?
This section of Bowden Street experiences relatively high traffic usage with a number of vehicles required to 'Give Way' due to the narrow width of the road and the number of vehicles parked on the kerbside. There have been some safety concerns due to adverse crossfall of the downhill lane and the steep embankment is an ongoing safety issue for the field staff in terms of regular maintenance. The improvement works include construction of a new retaining wall, road widening, reseal, associated stormwater footpath upgrades to address these issues and enhance the street appearance.
Works will be performed under full road closure, effective from 2 November for up to 7 weeks (weather permitting). The team aim to open the road again before the Christmas break. Detour routes will be made available via Windsor Street, Main Road and Eady Street. Traffic controls will be in place for the safety of all workers and members of the public. Residents and pedestrians will still have access to Bowden Street during this time.
Please follow signage and instructions in the area during this time. We apologise for any inconvenience during the works.
