Safer Communities Advisory Committee

The Safer Communities Advisory Committee seeks to identify and implement initiatives aimed at building safer and more connected communities within the City of Glenorchy. The Committee also develops a range of strategies to respond to issues as they arise within the community.

The committee is a special committee of the Council. It currently has representation from Glenorchy City Council, Tasmania Police, Crime Stoppers, Metro, Neighbourhood Watch, LINC, Karadi Aboriginal Corporation, Tasmanian Principals Association, young people, schools and local businesses. Glenorchy City Council can play a significant role in fostering the development of safer communities; by acknowledging that safety is not measured purely by the presence or absence of crime and understanding that community connectedness, pride of place, cultural interaction, equity, social justice and inclusion have the power to build safer communities.
