Safer Communities Committee

Glenorchy City Council's Safer Communities Committee seeks to identify and implement initiatives aimed at building safer and more connected communities within the City of Glenorchy. The Committee also develops a range of strategies to respond to issues as they arise within the community.

The committee is a special committee of the Council. It currently has representation from Glenorchy City Council, Tasmania Police, Crime Stoppers, Metro, Neighbourhood Watch, LINC, Karadi Aboriginal Corporation, Tasmanian Principals Association, young people, schools and local businesses. Safer Communities Strategy

The Safer Communities Strategy focuses on the following 4 goals:

  • supporting and strengthening all members of the community
  • reducing violence and crime
  • building confidence in public space
  • addressing offending in ways which are effective for both victims and offenders.

The strategy supports the vision that Glenorchy is a place where people care for each other and act together to strengthen communities and improve lives by building resilient, safe, vibrant, connected and confident communities.
