Strong winds can easily blow wheelie bins over, creating a safety hazard for motorists, pedestrians and our collection crews.
Keep your bin safe in windy weather
If your bin is due for collection during strong winds, please:
- Delay putting your bin out until 6:00am on collection day, if possible.
- Once your bin has been emptied, bring it back onto your property as soon as possible.
- Make sure your bin is positioned securely and away from areas where it could be blown into the street.
Who is responsible for scattered rubbish?
Please remember that it is the property owner’s responsibility to retrieve their bin and any rubbish that has been dispersed from their property.
Our collection drivers are unable to safely get out of their trucks to retrieve bins or scattered rubbish, as doing so can place them at risk from passing traffic.
By keeping your bin secure and bringing it back in promptly after collection, you can help keep our streets safe and make collection safer for everyone.
