recovery programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using the correct bin for each type of waste helps reduce landfill, improve recycling outcomes and support Council\u2019s broader waste management and sustainability goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your bin<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Standard residential general waste bins:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have a dark green lid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hold 140 litres<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are collected fortnightly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Households that regularly generate more waste may be eligible to apply for a larger 240-litre general waste bin for an additional annual charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional waste services may also be available for approved circumstances, including larger households or properties with specific waste management needs.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"block-button\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gcc.tas.gov.au\/ja\/%e3%81%82%e3%81%aa%e3%81%9f%e3%81%ae%e8%a9%95%e8%ad%b0%e4%bc%9a\/documents-publications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">All of Council\u2019s forms are available in the Documents and Publications Library.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collection day<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>General waste bins are collected fortnightly as part of Council\u2019s kerbside waste collection service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Residents can find their scheduled collection day using the Waste Collection Search tool available above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure your bin is collected:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Put your bin out the night before or before 6:00 am on collection day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place the bin at the kerb or designated collection point<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leave at least 1 metre clearance from other bins, vehicles and obstacles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Position the wheels facing away from the road where possible<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure the lid is fully closed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not overfill or overload the bin &#8211; the maximum weight is 70 kg.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove bins from the kerb after collection within 48 hours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Bins that are inaccessible, excessively heavy or overfilled may not be collected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Landlords and rental properties<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Property owners and landlords are responsible for ensuring appropriate waste and recycling services are available for their rental properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensuring bins are present at the property<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Arranging waste services for newly constructed or newly tenanted properties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replacing missing or damaged bins where required<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Providing tenants with access to appropriate waste disposal services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are establishing a new rental property or require changes to existing services, contact Council to discuss available options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Multi-unit developments<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Waste services for apartment buildings, units and townhouse developments are managed differently to standard residential properties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you live in a flat, multi-occupancy property or unit development, you may have Shared Bins collected weekly.&nbsp; They are generally 240L bins, the Waste bins will have red lids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Multi-unit developments must comply with Council\u2019s Waste Services Standards for Multiple Dwelling Units, which help ensure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Adequate bin storage space<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Safe and accessible collection arrangements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sufficient waste and recycling capacity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Appropriate vehicle access for collection trucks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimised impacts on neighbouring properties and public areas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Waste management requirements may form part of the development approval process for new residential developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Council may require:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Waste management plans<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shared bin arrangements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dedicated collection areas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Private collection services in some circumstances<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Developers, strata managers and property owners are encouraged to contact Council early in the planning services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples of acceptable items include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Non-recyclable packaging<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nappies and hygiene products<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Broken household items<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Polystyrene foam<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sharp or broken items such as glass should be wrapped securely before disposal to help protect collection workers.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ionata-accordion-block b-accordion\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-is-animated=\"true\"><details class=\"b-accordion__container\"><summary class=\"b-accordion-head\"><h3 id=\"at-14691\" class=\"b-accordion-head__title\">What does NOT go in the bin<\/h3><i class=\"b-accordion-head__indicator\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/summary><div class=\"b-accordion-body\"><div id=\"ac-14691\" class=\"b-accordion-body__inner\">\n<p>Items that can be recycled, composted or require specialised disposal should not be placed in the general waste bin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do not place the following items in your general waste bin:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Recyclable containers and packaging<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paper and cardboard suitable for recycling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Food and garden organics suitable for the FOGO bin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Batteries and electronic waste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paint, chemicals and hazardous materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gas bottles or pressurised containers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hot ashes or flammable materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Large household items or construction waste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical waste (sharps)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Incorrect disposal of hazardous materials can create fire, environmental and safety risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hazardous waste, batteries and certain other materials should be taken to the Jackson Street Landfill and Recycling Centre or another approved disposal facility.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ionata-accordion-block b-accordion\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-is-animated=\"true\"><details
