This method sequesters carbon from the weeds, and produces biochar, a product that is great for your soil and great for the planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our pilot project is ongoing at Prince of Wales Bay where we are treating and burning an infestation of boxthorn on the coast. We run workshops there regularly as well as in other locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meets:<\/strong>\u00a0Sporadically, but typically we have a workshop running on the last Sunday of each month. If you would like to join the email list for dates to join a workshop, please contact Council\u2019s Natural Areas Engagement Officer on (03) 6216 6800.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ionata-accordion-block b-accordion\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-is-animated=\"true\"><details class=\"b-accordion__container\"><summary class=\"b-accordion-head\"><h3 id=\"at-15131\" class=\"b-accordion-head__title\">Brent Street Reserve<\/h3><i class=\"b-accordion-head__indicator\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/summary><div class=\"b-accordion-body\"><div id=\"ac-15131\" class=\"b-accordion-body__inner\">\n<p>Brent Street Reserve Landcare volunteer in the Council reserve found on the corner of Brent Street and Jameson Street. The group was formed in January 2023 by local residents, who appreciated the natural beauty but also noticed the weeds creeping in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brent Street Landcare has been tackling the understory of weeds in this reserve from boneseed to agapanthus and black berry. We plan to then plant the areas cleared of weeds with native plants to enhance the values, creating habitat and food for native animals who rely on these inner-suburban nature corridors to survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Typical Tasks<\/strong>: Weeding, tree planting, reserve maintenance, litter picking, gardening, tree maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meets:<\/strong>&nbsp;The first Saturday of each month, 9:30am \u2013 11:30am. The important saltmarsh habitat in this area is important for wildlife, leisure and even for fighting climate change so it is worth looking after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Typical Tasks:<\/strong>&nbsp;Tree planting, weeding, track maintenance, reserve maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meets:<\/strong>&nbsp;The first Saturday morning of every month. Working with Glenorchy City Council, Collinsvale Primary School, and Landcare Tasmania, they focus on weed removal, education and track work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Typical Tasks:&nbsp;<\/strong>Track maintenance, reserve maintenance, re-vegetation, invasive species management, community engagement and environmental education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meets:<\/strong>&nbsp;Periodically, on Sundays. Focusing on invasive weed control and track maintenance, they work throughout the park, which is 18 250ha in size, but mainly on the eastern side. Within the Glenorchy City Council area, they have weeded near Montrose Trail, Goat Hills, Mt Hull, Humphreys Rivulet\/Tolosa and Barossa Creek\/Kalang and worked on the walking track over Mt Connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with Glenorchy City Council, the Friends of Wellington Park work closely with Hobart city council, the Wellington Park Management Trust and the Parks and Wildlife Service. These organisations provide training and support, including some on-ground support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typical Tasks: Invasive species removal, track maintenance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meets: The first Tuesday of every month. Please get in touch with Council\u2019s Natural Areas Engagement Officer (6216 6800) to find out when the next session is.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ionata-accordion-block b-accordion\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-is-animated=\"true\"><details class=\"b-accordion__container\"><summary class=\"b-accordion-head\"><h3 id=\"at-15137\" class=\"b-accordion-head__title\">Lutana Woodlands<\/h3><i class=\"b-accordion-head__indicator\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/summary><div class=\"b-accordion-body\"><div id=\"ac-15137\" class=\"b-accordion-body__inner\">\n<p>Lutana Woodlands Reserve is small, but this does not mean it isn\u2019t mighty. There are threatened species found here including Spreading knawel (<em>Scleranthus fasciculatus),<\/em>&nbsp;Narrowleaf new-holland-daisy (<em>Vittadinia muelleri),&nbsp;<\/em>and kangaroo grass grassland. This native grassland meets all but one threshold to be listed as endangered and therefore protected. This is the goal of the Lutana Woodlands group, established in 2018. The group of volunteers here are amongst our most dedicated and would love to have you along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Typical Tasks:<\/strong>&nbsp;Revegetation planting, woody weed removal, exotic grass control, native tree thinning, and biodiversity monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meets:<\/strong>&nbsp;The Tuesday Weeders meet every second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 9:30am to 11:30am, followed by morning tea. The group also meets for larger events, on weekends 5 times per year.
