Note that cooking does not make unsafe shellfish safe. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.tas.gov.au\/health-topics\/food-safety\/food-safety-consumers\/wild-shellfish\">Check current alerts<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fish:<\/strong> Some fish from the River Derwent and Browns River contain high mercury levels. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.derwentestuary.org.au\/fishing-and-seafood-safety\/\">Check the Derwent Estuary Program guide<\/a> for what&#8217;s safe to eat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mould<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Mould spores can cause health issues, particularly for people with asthma. Check damp, dark areas if you can smell it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cleaning mould<\/strong> Wear gloves, goggles, and an N-95 mask. Use either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Vinegar solution<\/strong> \u2014 80% vinegar, 20% water; leave for 20 minutes, then sponge with clean water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tea tree oil solution<\/strong> \u2014 2 tsp tea tree oil in 2 cups of water (approx. 3%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t dry-brush (spreads spores) or use bleach. For valuable items, consider professional cleaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Preventing mould<\/strong> \u2014 control moisture by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ventilating<\/strong> \u2014 open windows, use bathroom\/exhaust fans, vent dryers outside<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Heating<\/strong> \u2014 use dry heat continuously at a low level; let in sunlight<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maintaining your home<\/strong> \u2014 fix leaks, clear weep holes, check door\/window seals, cut back overhanging trees, and ensure garden beds slope away from the house<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.tas.gov.au\/health-topics\/environmental-health\/environmental-health-services\/mould\">More information on mould<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the community To help improve the health and wellbeing of our residents, we have developed a&nbsp;Healthy Communities Plan&nbsp;(PDF).
