However, permits may be required for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fences in a heritage overlay area<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fences over a certain height (check the Tasmanian Planning Scheme)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fences near a road where visibility is a concern<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Contact our Planning team before building if you are unsure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Resolving a dispute<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you and your neighbour cannot agree about a fence, you can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Try to resolve it through discussion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a mediation service (contact us for referrals)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply to the Magistrates Court under the Boundary Fences Act<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>We encourage neighbours to try to resolve disputes amicably before taking legal action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Contact<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Phone: 03 6216 6800 Email: gccmail@gcc.tas.gov.au<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Before building a fence You do not usually need a permit to build a standard fence.
