You can also <a href=\"https:\/\/gcc.assets.ionatahosting.net\/uploads\/2026\/06\/2026Representation-Planning-Scheme-Amendment.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">download the representation form<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Deadlines:<\/strong> Online and email submissions must be received by <strong>11:59pm<\/strong> on the final day. Postal and hand-delivered submissions must arrive by <strong>5:00pm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>View <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gcc.tas.gov.au\/zh\/services\/planning-and-building\/planning-and-development\/planning-applications\/\">current advertised applications<\/a> online or in Council Chambers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Making an appeal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can appeal a council decision if you are either the original applicant, or someone who lodged a representation during the advertising period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As an objector<\/strong>, you have <strong>14 days from the date of council&#8217;s decision<\/strong> to lodge an appeal if a permit is granted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As an applicant<\/strong>, you can appeal against a refusal or against conditions attached to an approved permit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Appeals are handled by the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tascat.tas.gov.au\/\">Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (TASCAT)<\/a><\/strong> and are lodged by submitting a Notice of Appeal form and paying the required fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The appeal process:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong>directions hearing<\/strong> is held first, where the Registrar explains the process, ensures all parties have the information they need, explores whether mediation is possible, and sets dates for any further hearings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If mediation doesn&#8217;t resolve the matter, a <strong>full hearing<\/strong> is held where formal submissions are made and the Tribunal issues a <strong>legally binding decision<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> If the applicant appeals, TASCAT won&#8217;t notify you directly \u2014 check the Public Notices section of <em>The Mercury<\/em> (Wednesdays and Saturdays) or contact the Tribunal. If you want to be involved in the applicant&#8217;s appeal, apply in writing to be &#8220;joined as a party&#8221; and attend the Directions Hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important:<\/strong> A granted planning permit doesn&#8217;t take effect until the 14-day appeal period has passed \u2014 and if an appeal is lodged, the permit remains on hold until the appeal is resolved or withdrawn.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Making a representation (objection) When a planning application is advertised, anyone can view the proposed plans and formally submit a representation (objection or support) during the advertising period.
