Glenorchy City Council held a Special Council Meeting on Monday, 15 June 2026.

An apology from Councillor Molly Kendall was noted.

Announcements by the Chair

The Mayor provided updates on key projects across the City, including the Glenorchy War Memorial Pool, which remains on schedule and within budget, with head contract works now at 90 per cent completion and on track for a public opening on 1 October.

The youth hub continues to attract strong participation, with expanded opening hours planned from
1 July 2026 and the new accompanying outdoor half-court is already well used by young people.

Additional updates highlighted new public art installations, the completion of the Apex Park playspace and pocket forest, the launch of Council’s refreshed website, and the ongoing roadworks at Austins Ferry to improve cycling safety and connectivity.

2026/27 Budget Estimates

Council adopted the 2026/27 Budget Estimates and Long-Term Financial Management Plan, with a balanced break-even operating position and a 5.40% (percent) general rate increase.

The $89.6 million budget responds to rising costs, including a 54% (percent) increase in the State Government waste levy, and includes no new borrowings following repayment of all debt.

The budget provides for key priorities such as reopening the Glenorchy War Memorial Pool, youth hub operations, and infrastructure renewal.

2026/27 Capital Works Program and Budget

Council endorsed and adopted a $21.1 million Capital Works Program, with $13.7 million allocated to asset renewal and $7.4 million to new and upgraded assets.

Major investments include transport infrastructure ($11.5 million), property and environment ($2.8 million), and stormwater upgrades ($1.9 million), supporting safe and functional community assets.

The program reflects a balanced approach, with reduced total expenditure compared to the previous year following completion of major grant-funded projects.

Glenorchy City Council Annual Plan 2026/27–2029/30

Council adopted its Annual Plan 2026/27–2029/30, outlining actions to deliver the Strategic Plan 2023–2032 over the next four years.

Key priorities include operating the youth hub, supporting increased housing supply, improving community safety and inclusion, progressing playground renewals, including Tolosa Park, and continuing infrastructure investment.

The plan aligns with the adopted budget and will be monitored through quarterly and annual reporting.
