Glenorchy City Council held its Ordinary Council Meeting on Monday, 27 July 2026. 10 Elected Members were present.
Announcements by the Chair
The Mayor provided an update on the Glenorchy War Memorial Pool project, advising that works remain on track, with the head contract almost complete and community opening celebrations planned for early October.
The Youth Hub’s school holiday program attracted around 50 young people each day, with regular afternoon drop-in sessions now underway. Council also encouraged residents to remain vigilant following mainland detections of H5 bird flu and highlighted recent environmental initiatives, including National Tree Day planting at Windermere Bay and a collaborative operation to address illegal dirt bike use in Wellington Park.
The Mayor encouraged residents to visit Faces From Our Town, the latest exhibition at Moonah Arts Centre, which celebrates diversity through photographic portraits and community stories, alongside other exhibitions running until 22 August.
Council also highlighted upcoming community events, including Citizenship Ceremonies welcoming 150 new Australian citizens this month, Kick It 2 KGV, Homelessness Week activities, the Winter Warmer Community Expo, and community consultation on the Main Road Moonah Amenity Project. The latest Places of Glenorchy video featuring the Chigwell Community Garden, was also showcased.
Policies update: Access, Equity and Belonging Policy and the Cultural Development Policy
Council adopted the revised Access, Equity and Belonging Policy. Council also approved an amendment to strengthen recognition of Glenorchy’s multicultural community by adding a specific reference under the Celebrating Diversity section. Council resolved to rescind the Cultural Development Policy following the adoption of the Access, Equity and Belonging Policy that replaces it.
End of Financial Year Capital Works Status Report
Council noted the End of Financial Year Capital Status Report, highlighting the delivery of 91% of the 2025–26 capital works program. Major projects completed or progressed during the year included road, footpath, playground, stormwater, and community infrastructure upgrades across the municipality.
Quarterly Report – Q4 – Period Ending 30 June 2026
Council received its Quarterly Performance Report for the period ending 30 June 2026. The report highlighted progress against Council’s Annual Plan, positive financial results, continued delivery of community infrastructure projects and strong community engagement through Council’s communication channels.
Procurement Exemptions
Council noted an approved procurement exemption to support the continued licensing of a critical customer service and software systems, ensuring continuity of services and avoiding the costs associated with changing platforms.
Australian Electoral Commission – Redistribution of federal Electoral Boundaries in Tasmania
Council noted the Australian Electoral Commission’s redistribution of federal electoral boundaries in Tasmania. As a result, the Glenorchy local government area will move from the electorate of Clark to the electorate of Lyons. Council discussed the opportunities this change may provide for future advocacy and funding opportunities.
