KGV Oval is Glenorchy's premier sporting venue, named in honour of King George V and sitting just a kilometre from the Glenorchy CBD.

A local cornerstone

Used by the local community since the early 1950s, and today serves as the home ground for the Glenorchy Football Club, the Southern Football League, and the Glenorchy Cricket Club. With a capacity of around 18,000, it’s the third-largest Australian rules football venue in Tasmania, behind North Hobart Oval and UTAS Stadium. The playing surface itself — 160 by 134 metres — is one of the biggest in the state.

Features

The ground features two main grandstands (the Cresswell-Beakley Stand and the Anfield Street Stand), along with the Glenorchy Football Club’s clubrooms, which include change rooms, offices, a social club, and a kiosk. The Glenorchy Cricket Club also has its own clubhouse and practice nets on site.

In recent years

Glenorchy City Council has invested significantly in the precinct. The KGV Sports and Community Centre opened in 2015 as part of a broader master plan to make KGV a true multi-use community hub — and it’s been hosting sporting and community events ever since.

Note that KGV Oval is separate from the adjoining KGV Park, which is a dedicated soccer venue and the home of Football Tasmania.
