Backflow prevention devices stop contaminants from getting into drinking water
A backflow prevention device is fitted to water supply pipes to stop contaminants from entering the drinking water supply. Properties with high-hazard installations are required to have one.
Installation
A Certificate of Likely Compliance and Plumbing Permit must be issued by Council before a device can be installed.
Annual Testing
Owners are responsible for having their device tested every 12 months by a licensed plumber. Once the device passes, the plumber completes a test report — a copy of which must be sent to Council. Council maintains a register of all devices and will send owners an annual reminder and invoice.
The test certificate form is available here and in our documents and publications library.
