We can help if you need a document witnessed or signed by a Commissioner for Declarations or a Justice of the Peace (JP).
Commissioner for Declarations
Commissioners can witness signatures and take statutory declarations, but cannot administer oaths, affidavits, or affirmations, and cannot receive complaints or issue summons or warrants. Just ask at our Customer Service counter.
Justice of the Peace
A JP can help with:
- Affidavits for use in court
- Statutory declarations
- Certifying true copies of documents
- Witnessing wills and probate applications
- Certifying a person’s identity
A JP is available at our offices every Monday, 10am–2pm (excluding public holidays) — no appointment needed.
You can also find JPs across Tasmania through the Tasmanian Justice of the Peace Society.
