All dogs in Tasmania over the age of six months legally have to be registered.

You have to renew your registration by 31 July each year (and keep a copy of your receipt).

Owning a dog is a rewarding experience, but it also comes with important responsibilities.

One of the simplest and most important steps you can take as a pet owner is ensuring your dog is registered with Glenorchy City Council.

Dog registration is a legal requirement and helps Council maintain accurate records of pets living in our community. If your dog ever becomes lost, registration can make it much easier to reunite them with you quickly and safely.

Registration is also part of being a responsible pet owner.

Responsible pet ownership helps create a safe, enjoyable environment for everyone.

Keeping your dog’s registration up to date, ensuring they are under effective control in public spaces, and being mindful of neighbours and shared community areas all play an important role in making Glenorchy a great place for people and pets alike.

If you’ve recently welcomed a new dog into your household, moved address, or need to update your details, now is a great time to check that your registration is current.

All forms can be found in our Documents and Publications Library.
