The Glenorchy Jobs Hub continues to make a positive impact across the community, supporting local residents to find employment, access training and build rewarding careers.
Between July 2025 and June 2026, the Hub supported 288 people into employment and made approximately 280 training referrals, helping jobseekers connect with opportunities across a range of industries.
Mayor Sue Hickey said the results highlight the important role the Hub plays in supporting both jobseekers and local employers.
“Behind every employment outcome is a person whose life has changed for the better,” Mayor Sue Hickey said.
“Whether it’s someone finding their first job, returning to the workforce or gaining the confidence to pursue further training, the Glenorchy Jobs Hub is helping create opportunities that strengthen our community.”
Meeting Local Workforce Needs
The Hub is seeing strong demand in sectors including disability support, aged care, childcare and hospitality. Popular training pathways include Certificate III in Individual Support, community services qualifications, hospitality courses and employment readiness programs.
Many participants are migrants or new arrivals who already hold qualifications but need support understanding local industry requirements, gaining Australian experience or identifying additional training that will improve their employment prospects.
The Hub works closely with a range of partners, including Build Up Tassie, CCF Tasmania, TroubleSmiths, TAFE Tasmania, Work & Training and the Migrant Resource Centre, helping connect jobseekers with training and employment opportunities.
Personalised Support Makes a Difference
People come to the Hub facing a range of challenges, including language barriers, transport difficulties, limited digital skills, health concerns and a lack of confidence.
Through one-on-one coaching, group sessions, masterclasses and employment programs, the Hub provides tailored support designed to help people overcome barriers and achieve their goals.
One participant, John, came to the Hub while managing mental health challenges and struggling to find direction. After completing the Build Up Tassie program, he successfully secured employment.
Another participant arrived uncertain about their career pathway while working inconsistent retail shifts. With support from the Hub, they applied for a traineeship, prepared for interviews and successfully secured the role.
A standout success story is Jarina, who relocated to Tasmania with a Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education but found it difficult to enter the local childcare sector. With support from the Hub, she refined her resume, enrolled in a Certificate III qualification and attended a childcare information session hosted by Goodstart Early Learning. She was subsequently offered full-time employment.
“These stories show what can be achieved when people are given the right support at the right time,” Mayor Sue Hickey said.
Strengthening the Community
Beyond individual employment outcomes, the Hub is helping strengthen families, support local businesses and boost economic participation across Glenorchy.
The service also fills an important gap for people who may not be eligible for Commonwealth employment services, providing free, voluntary support in a welcoming and judgement-free environment.
“Employment has a ripple effect that extends far beyond the individual,” Mayor Sue Hickey said.
“When people find meaningful work, it benefits their families, strengthens our local economy and helps build a more connected and resilient community.”
Looking Ahead
The Glenorchy Jobs Hub is focused on expanding partnerships with employers, delivering more pre-employment programs and creating additional pathways between schools, training providers and local businesses.
