Glenorchy's three CBDs each have a distinct character and are all experiencing strong growth.

They are attractive destinations for new residents, businesses, and investors alike.

Glenorchy’s activity centres are the heart of the municipality’s commercial, cultural and community life. Each area has its own identity, character and role within the city, contributing to a diverse and connected community.

From busy shopping and business precincts to waterfront destinations and neighbourhood centres, Glenorchy’s CBD areas provide places for people to work, shop, gather, dine and enjoy community life.

Together, Glenorchy’s CBD areas support the municipality’s economic activity and cultural diversity.

Council continues to invest in these centres through planning, infrastructure improvements, public space upgrades and support for local businesses to help create vibrant, accessible and welcoming places for the whole community.

Glenorchy CBD

The Glenorchy CBD is the municipality’s primary commercial and civic centre, located along Main Road and surrounding streets.

The area is home to a wide range of retail businesses, professional services, community facilities and public transport connections, including the Glenorchy bus interchange and nearby transport links.

Council’s offices and civic facilities are located within the CBD, making it an important hub for local government and community services.

In recent years, significant investment has been made in revitalising the Glenorchy CBD through streetscape improvements, upgraded public spaces, improved accessibility and support for economic development and private investment.

The precinct continues to evolve as a welcoming and active city centre that supports local business, community activity and future growth.

Moonah CBD

Moonah is one of Glenorchy’s most distinctive and vibrant urban centres and is widely recognised as one of Tasmania’s most multicultural communities.

The suburb has a lively and diverse main street featuring cafés, restaurants, international grocers, specialty retailers, creative businesses, health services and community organisations.

Moonah’s multicultural identity is reflected in its food, businesses, events and community life, creating a unique atmosphere that attracts visitors from across Greater Hobart and beyond.

The area also has a growing arts and creative sector, contributing to a strong local identity and vibrant street life.

Moonah continues to be an important destination for shopping, dining, cultural experiences and community connection.

Claremont CBD

Claremont serves as an important neighbourhood centre for Glenorchy’s northern and western suburbs; and is the home of Cadbury.

The suburb includes local shopping areas, schools, sporting facilities, parks and community services that support surrounding residential communities.

Claremont has a strong local identity and provides convenient access to everyday services and recreational opportunities for residents.

The area continues to support a mix of residential growth, local business activity and community development.

GASP! Waterfront

The GASP! (Glenorchy Art and Sculpture Park) precinct is one of Glenorchy’s most recognised public spaces and a major waterfront destination along the Derwent River.

The precinct combines open space, contemporary public art, walking and cycling paths, picnic areas and striking river views, creating a unique environment for recreation, relaxation and community events.

The iconic GASP! boardwalk and public art installations attract both residents and visitors, contributing to Glenorchy’s reputation as a city that values creativity, accessibility and public spaces.
