  • Monday to Friday: 7:30 am – 4:00 pm
  • Saturday: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Please note that severe weather conditions, particularly high winds, may result in temporary site closures or operational restrictions for safety reasons. Residents are encouraged to check Council’s website for current operating conditions and service updates before visiting.

What you can drop off

The facility accepts a variety of household, commercial and recyclable materials.

General waste

General waste includes household rubbish and non-recyclable materials that cannot be processed through kerbside recycling or FOGO services.

Examples may include:

  • Household rubbish
  • Bulky waste items
  • Broken furniture
  • Non-recyclable plastics
  • Mixed waste materials

Green waste

Green waste is accepted separately for composting and resource recovery.

Accepted materials may include:

  • Lawn clippings
  • Leaves and garden prunings
  • Branches and small tree limbs
  • Weeds and plant material

Separating green waste helps divert organic material from landfill.

Construction and demolition waste

The facility accepts some building and demolition materials from small-scale construction and renovation projects.

This may include:

  • Timber
  • Bricks and concrete
  • Plasterboard
  • Mixed construction waste

Additional fees and disposal conditions may apply.

Hazardous household waste

Some household hazardous materials can be disposed of safely at the facility.

Accepted items may include:

  • Paint and paint tins
  • Household chemicals
  • Batteries
  • Fluorescent tubes and globes
  • Oils and solvents

These materials require specialised handling to minimise environmental and safety risks.

E-waste

Electronic waste, or e-waste, can often be recycled or recovered separately from general waste.

Accepted e-waste may include:

  • Computers and laptops
  • Televisions and monitors
  • Printers and accessories
  • Small household appliances
  • Electronic equipment and cables

Recovering e-waste helps reduce harmful materials entering landfill and allows valuable resources to be recycled.

Scrap metal

Scrap metal is accepted for recycling and resource recovery.

This may include:

  • Steel and aluminium items
  • Whitegoods
  • Metal household items
  • Metal offcuts and components

Some recyclable metal items may be accepted free of charge.

Tyres

Tyres are accepted at the facility, however disposal fees apply.

Tyres require specialised recycling or processing and must not be placed in kerbside bins.

Fees

Fees apply for most waste disposal services at the facility.

Charges may vary depending on:

  • The type of material
  • Weight or volume
  • Vehicle type
  • Commercial or residential use
  • Disposal and processing requirements

Some recyclable materials may be accepted free of charge, including certain metals and approved e-waste items.

Current fees and accepted materials are available on Council’s website or by contacting Council directly.

What is not accepted

For safety, environmental and regulatory reasons, some materials cannot be accepted at the facility.

These may include:

  • Clinical or medical waste
  • Biohazardous materials
  • Large quantities of liquids
  • Explosive or highly dangerous materials

Specialist disposal services are required for these types of waste.

If you are unsure whether a material can be accepted, contact Council before visiting the site.

Safety and site requirements

Visitors to the landfill and recycling centre must follow all site directions, safety signage and staff instructions.

For safety reasons:

  • Children and pets should remain supervised at all times
  • Appropriate footwear and clothing should be worn
  • Loads should be secured during transport
  • Traffic directions and speed limits must be followed
  • Materials should only be placed in designated disposal areas

Council staff may inspect loads to ensure materials are disposed of correctly.

Why recycling and resource recovery matter

The Jackson Street facility supports Council’s broader waste management and sustainability goals by:

  • Reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill
  • Recovering recyclable materials
  • Supporting composting and organics recovery
  • Reducing environmental impacts
  • Encouraging responsible waste disposal practices

Community participation in recycling and correct waste disposal helps improve environmental outcomes across the municipality.
