The Glenorchy CBD revitalisation project was completed in 2021.

The project was delivered on time and under budget, providing a transformed civic and commercial heart for the city.

Stretching between Terry Street and Barry Street, the upgraded CBD puts people first — reducing the dominance of vehicles and creating a more accessible, comfortable, and vibrant streetscape for the 140-plus businesses, services, and community facilities in the area, including the Metro interchange, Glenorchy Library, cinema complex, and KGV sports stadium.

Key improvements include:

  • Narrowed road widths and lower speed limits
  • Raised intersections for safer pedestrian movement
  • Widened footpaths to encourage outdoor dining
  • Accessible parking bays and improved mobility access
  • Street trees and eco-friendly garden beds
  • Cycling infrastructure
  • High-quality street furniture and feature lighting
  • Street art and sculpture spaces

The project was developed in close consultation with the local community and sets the foundation for the continued growth and modernisation of the Glenorchy CBD.
