Want to lower your household bills and make your home more comfortable?

Glenorchy City Council’s Home Energy Audit Toolkits are available for Glenorchy residents to borrow free of charge for up to two weeks.

The toolkits provide easy-to-use equipment to help you understand how your home uses energy and water, identify where energy may be wasted, and discover simple ways to improve efficiency.

By understanding where and how energy and water are being used in your home, you can make informed choices that may help reduce household costs, improve comfort and reduce your environmental impact.

What’s included?

Each Home Energy Audit Toolkit contains two carry cases with equipment and information to help you conduct a simple audit of your home.

Large carry case

The large carry case contains:

  • Appliance energy use meter – measure how much electricity individual appliances use and estimate how much they cost to run.
  • Stopwatch – useful for timing water use and other measurements.
  • Compass – help understand the orientation of your home and how sunlight may affect different areas.
  • Thermal imaging camera instruction manual – guidance on using the thermal camera.
  • A4 information booklet – simple tips and information to help you identify opportunities to save energy and water.

Small carry case

The small carry case contains:

  • Thermal imaging camera (Thermal Master THOR002) – identify temperature differences around your home that may help reveal areas of heat loss or other energy-efficiency issues.
  • Thermal camera charger.

How can the toolkit help?

The toolkit can help you investigate everyday energy and water use in your home.

You can use the equipment to:

  • Check how much electricity your appliances use.
  • Identify appliances that may be using more energy than expected.
  • Estimate the running costs of household appliances.
  • Look for areas where heat may be escaping from your home.
  • Monitor water use.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce energy and water consumption.
  • Find simple ways to make your home more energy efficient and comfortable.
