Creating more housing is a shared responsibility. Council works with residents, developers, community housing providers, businesses, all levels of government, non-government organisations and industry partners to help deliver better housing opportunities across Glenorchy.
How we’re supporting housing
Council plays several important roles in improving housing outcomes for our community.
Advocating for better housing
We advocate to State and Federal governments, as well as peak industry bodies, for greater investment, resources and planning reforms that help improve housing affordability and reduce homelessness in Glenorchy.
Supporting our community
We work closely with government agencies, housing providers and community organisations to promote and support services that meet the needs of Glenorchy residents, including people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Planning for growth
As the planning authority, we seek opportunities to provide for a diverse range of housing through appropriate land zoning. We also work to assess rezoning, housing and subdivision applications efficiently to support well-planned residential development.
Making the best use of Council land
Where appropriate, Council will release surplus Council-owned land to help increase the supply of residential land and support the delivery of more housing in Glenorchy.
