The Glenorchy Parking Plan is now in effect, providing a modern approach to parking requirements for new developments across the municipality.

The Plan supports Glenorchy’s growth by balancing the need for accessible parking with sustainable transport options, while helping to create more vibrant, walkable centres.

The Plan replaces standard minimum parking requirements for eligible developments in designated areas under the Tasmanian Planning Scheme. It also introduces a cash-in-lieu option in certain circumstances, allowing developers to contribute towards future public parking infrastructure where on-site parking isn’t practical. The Plan has applied to relevant planning permit applications since 2 January 2026.

Residents, businesses, developers and planning professionals can download the full Glenorchy Parking Plan below to learn more about how the policy works, where it applies, and what it means for future development in Glenorchy.
