Glenorchy City Council has endorsed five major priority projects at its January Council meeting, marking an important step forward in delivering key community infrastructure, public spaces and cultural initiatives across the municipality.
Each of the five priority projects will require external funding to progress. Funding will be sought from both State and Federal Governments through their 2026-27 budget processes and grant programs.
The largest of the priority projects is the Glenorchy War Memorial Pool Redevelopment, with a total project value of $83.8 million.
This transformational redevelopment will deliver a modern, accessible and energy-efficient aquatic facility for the community, supporting recreation, learn-to-swim programs, rehabilitation and year-round use for residents of all ages and abilities.
Stage B of the Tolosa Park Redevelopment, valued at $7.51 million would build on previous works to further enhance one of Glenorchy’s most important family and community precincts, improving facilities for clubs, spectators and the wider community.
A Destination Playspace at Berriedale Foreshore, with an investment of $1.2 million, would create a high-quality, inclusive play space along the Derwent River. It would strengthen Berriedale as a family-friendly destination, encouraging outdoor play, social connection and greater use of the foreshore.
The development of detailed design for the Humphreys Rivulet Path would progress planning for a future shared path corridor, improving active transport connections, enhancing access to natural areas, and supporting healthier, more sustainable travel options.
Recognising the value of arts and culture, $100,000 for the Glenorchy Street Art Program would continue to support high-quality public art, celebrate local stories and creativity, and contribute to vibrant, welcoming public spaces across the city.
Council will now continue to advocate for funding for each of the endorsed projects as part of its ongoing commitment to building infrastructure and places that meet the needs of the Glenorchy community now and into the future.
