Glenorchy City Council is committed to both listening to and informing our community.

We engage through a range of channels throughout the year — and we keep residents up to date through our website, social media, local media like the Glenorchy Gazette, and posters and flyers across the community.

We value the ideas, experiences and feedback of residents, businesses and community organisations.

Community engagement helps Council make informed decisions and ensures local voices are considered in planning, projects, policies and services that affect the community.

Council is committed to open, transparent and inclusive engagement processes that encourage participation from people of all backgrounds, ages and abilities.

How we engage

Council uses a range of methods to involve the community in decisions and projects across Glenorchy.

Engagement activities may include:

  • Public consultations on major projects, plans and policies
  • Surveys and questionnaires
  • Community workshops and information sessions
  • Drop-in sessions and pop-up events
  • Online engagement opportunities through Let’s Talk Glenorchy
  • Feedback on strategic plans and Council initiatives
  • Public representations and submissions on planning matters
  • Community input into annual budgets and long-term plans

The type of engagement used may vary depending on the project, community interest and legislative requirements.

Have your say

Council encourages all members of the community to participate in consultations and engagement activities that affect them. Community feedback helps Council:

  • Understand local needs and priorities
  • Improve services and facilities
  • Identify issues and opportunities
  • Build stronger community connections
  • Make better-informed decisions for Glenorchy’s future

Whether through online feedback, surveys, workshops or formal submissions, every contribution helps shape the future of the municipality.

Ways to Get Involved

  • Community Pop-Ups — Drop in for a casual chat with Elected Members and Council staff at locations around Glenorchy
  • Community Yarns — Structured gatherings where residents, community groups, and businesses can discuss priorities and issues that matter to them
  • Let’s Talk, Glenorchy — Our online engagement platform where you can share ideas, give feedback, and stay across what Council is working on

Community Engagement Framework

In 2022–23, Council asked over 1,000 community members how they wanted to be engaged. That feedback directly shaped our Community Engagement Framework — our commitment to building a genuine culture of engagement across Council and the community.

The Framework includes four documents, the Community Engagement Policy, the Community Engagement Guide, the Community Engagement Procedure and Toolkit, and the Community Engagement Brochure for residents on how to get involved.
