Funding Priority Projects

Funding for the Glenorchy War Memorial Pool and Tolosa Park master plan headline the Glenorchy City Council’s list of priorities for funding consideration by State and Federal Governments.

Glenorchy Mayor Bec Thomas said the council had prepared the document to reinforce its funding priorities.

“It is critical that our state and federal representatives understand what our priorities are. We want our priorities to be uppermost in the minds of local members and Ministers when they are preparing budgets and policies.

“The fact is that local government has the responsibility to provide much of the infrastructure and services our communities rely on – and we in turn rely on funding from other levels of government to be able to respond to our communities’ needs.

“Glenorchy City Council’s priorities document spells out what we are advocating for on behalf of our community.”

Mayor Thomas said the council would continue lobbying both state and federal governments for funding for the Glenorchy pool.

“We are not leaving any stone unturned in our efforts to fund a new pool for Glenorchy. We have previously requested funding from the Federal Government, and we are now making it clear we are also asking for further funding assistance from the State Government.

“Simply put, it would be a significant cost for Glenorchy ratepayers to fund a redeveloped pool – we will need help from other governments to build a facility of that size and scope.”

Mayor Thomas said being able to achieve the full vision outlined in the Tolosa Park master plan would allow the council to complete the delivery of a regionally significant recreational area for the municipal area.

“This exciting project will deliver a recreational space in the heart of Glenorchy suitable for all ages and a wide variety of users.

“What was a former water-reservoir will become a recreational area located close to the Glenorchy CBD as well as becoming a well-established gateway to the Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park,” she said.

“I also look forward to promoting and discussing these projects with parties and individual candidates ahead of the next election, whenever it is held.”
