Glenorchy City Council held its final Ordinary Council Meeting for 2025 on Monday, 15 December 2025.

Announcements by the Chair
Recognition of Tragic Events at Bondi Beach
The Mayor opened the meeting by expressing Council’s deepest sympathies and condolences to the community of Bondi following the tragic events that occurred over the weekend. It was noted that the flags above Council Chambers were flown at half-mast in recognition of the lives lost. A minute’s silence was observed by those present at the meeting.
Glenorchy Community Spirit
The Mayor reflected on the strength of community spirit in Glenorchy, noting recent festive events that celebrated diversity and inclusion. The Mayor also highlighted the completion of the new mural facing the Glenorchy bus mall, praising artist Trent Fisher.
Berriedale Track Extension
The Mayor also acknowledged the opening of the Berridale track extension at the Tasmanian Transport Museum, commending the Museum’s volunteers for their dedication and contribution to heritage and tourism.
Australasian Youth Justice Awards
Council staff members Ben Hughes and Joel Imber were recognised for their role in supporting the Community Youth Justice South Team, which received an Exceptional Practice Notable Mention at the Australasian Youth Justice Awards.
Policy and Governance Matters
Council adopted an updated Waste Services Policy, incorporating improved clarity, updated definitions and operational detail. Supporting standards for waste services in new multiple dwelling developments were also noted.
A scheduled review of the Use of Animals for Entertainment and Use of Jumping Castles on Council Property Policy was completed, with Council adopting the updated policy. Only minor administrative changes were made, with no change to the policy’s intent.
Glenorchy Parking Plan
Council endorsed the Glenorchy Parking Plan, which introduces locally appropriate, evidence-based parking rates for residential and business developments. The Plan will take effect from 2 January 2026.
Business Updates
Council received and noted the Financial Performance Report to 30 November 2025, which showed Council is tracking materially in line with the 2025/26 budget.
Capital works expenditure is progressing well, with significant progress on the Glenorchy War Memorial Pool upgrade. Approximately 35 per cent of works have been completed, and the project remains on schedule for completion within the financial year.
