Glenorchy City Council has decided to re-engage Belgravia Leisure to operate the Glenorchy War Memorial Pool for the next two seasons, after the facility re-opens later this year.
Acting Mayor Russell Yaxley said Belgravia Leisure were operating the pool when it closed in 2023 for repairs, having been selected through an open tender process in 2020.
“On the basis that Belgravia Leisure had two years to run on its contract at the time of the closure, along with the difficulties associated with running another tender process while repairs are still underway, Council has determined to reappoint Belgravia Leisure for a period of two years.
“At the conclusion of that period, Council will open another tender for the pool’s operation.”
Ald. Yaxley said making the determination now would allow Belgravia Leisure to undertake the necessary recruitment to staff the facility, as well as make preparations for events such as school swimming carnivals and other swim programs in the lead up to summer.
“Belgravia Leisure has extensive experience operating pools in Australia and New Zealand, and we are pleased to be able to offer it the opportunity to again operate the pool on behalf of Council and effectively serve out the original contract.”
Ald. Yaxley said repairs to the pool were approaching the halfway point and remained on track to be completed mid-year.
“We know the community is excitedly looking ahead to the start of next summer when a revitalised pool will be reopened,” he said.
