Council Backs Next Steps for Greater Hobart Rapid Bus Network

At its General Meeting last night, Glenorchy City Council noted the State Government’s Greater Hobart Rapid Bus Network strategic business case, and committed to further engagement with the relevant government agency as detailed business case is developed.

Glenorchy Mayor Sue Hickey said the project had been a long time coming and hoped the State Government would continue to progress it as quickly as possible.

“Obviously this project provides significant benefits for people who live in Glenorchy and need to travel to and from Hobart.

“It’s important to get people onto safe, fast, reliable transport – whether they need to get to jobs or appointments, getting people off the roads and out of cars is something we need to be aiming. This is undoubtedly a city-shaping project, and I’m glad it’s finally taking a step forward.”

In noting the business case, Council said it would seek early visibility of proposed station locations and corridor design, which may require Council approvals.

Council also stated that any Council-dependent workstreams, such as planning scheme amendments, local walking or cycling access, public space upgrades should be properly scoped and supported by appropriate government funding.
