Council Meeting News – April 2026

Glenorchy City Council held its Ordinary Council Meeting on Monday, 27 April 2026.

Alderman Shane Alderton and Councillor Molly Kendall were apologies.

Announcements by the Chair

The Mayor provided updates on key projects and initiatives across the municipality. Works at the Glenorchy War Memorial Pool are now over 70 per cent complete, with major components nearing final inspection and the former waterslide area to become a new family picnic space. A successful Youth Week event marked the Youth Hub soft launch, ahead of a staged opening and a formal launch on 1 July. The Mayor also highlighted the live Tasmania Police CCTV link, new and planned public murals, grey goshawk sculptures at New Town Rivulet, and upcoming park upgrades including Tolosa Park’s boardwalk, Apex Park and Moonah parklets.

Inclusive Engagement Plan

Council endorsed a new Community Engagement Action Plan for 2026/27 to strengthen inclusive engagement practices and improve participation by community members who are harder to reach. The plan builds on Council’s existing engagement framework and focuses on meeting people where they are, using accessible and everyday engagement methods to ensure a broader range of voices inform Council decisions.

Greater Hobart Rapid Bus Network Strategic Business Case

Council received and noted the Greater Hobart Rapid Bus Network Strategic Business Case and supported continued engagement with the State Government as the project progresses to its next phase. The report highlighted Glenorchy’s position as a key activity centre on the Northern Corridor and the importance of coordinated planning to support future transport, housing and urban renewal opportunities.

Information Management Policy

Council adopted an updated Information Management Policy following a scheduled review. The revised policy strengthens governance and accountability for records and information management and ensures Council continues to meet its legislative obligations and best-practice standards.

Quarterly Report – Period Ending 31 March 2026

Council received and noted its Quarter Three financial report, which outlined Council’s financial and operational performance for the period. The report showed a favourable operating position, stable financial management and ongoing delivery of priority programs and services.

Capital Works Status Report

Council received and noted a progress update on the 2025/26 Capital Works Program. The report highlighted continued delivery across transport, stormwater, property and community infrastructure projects, including ongoing works at the Glenorchy War Memorial Pool and completion of several local upgrades.
