After careful consideration, Glenorchy City Council has today (13 March 2020) made the difficult decision to postpone the 10th anniversary of the Moonah Taste of the World Festival, which was scheduled for 22 March 2020, for the foreseeable future.
The decision was made due to public health concerns and the potential for significant financial impacts on community groups who are participating in the event if a cancellation was delayed.
We are working closely with stallholders, performers, sponsors and other suppliers to minimise the impact of this decision.
This was a very difficult decision as the Moonah Taste of the World is a flagship event in our annual calendar which celebrates Glenorchy’s multicultural diversity and brings together people from across Tasmania in a fun, safe and family friendly festival.
While we acknowledge that the postponement is disappointing, our primary concern is the health and well being of our community.
This is clearly the right decision to make given the current uncertainty surrounding public gatherings in light of the spread of COVID-19.
It is also the right time to make this decision, given the significant impact that a last-minute cancellation would have on our community.
