Status: Seeking Funding
Following strong community feedback from the 2024–25 Future Directions Survey, Glenorchy City Council identified recreation and public open spaces as one of the top three priorities for service area funding. Key themes included:
- Improving cycling and pedestrian infrastructure
- Maintaining a clean and green city
- Expanding accessible parklands through greening programs
In response, Council has prioritised the Humphrey’s Rivulet Path as a key project in its 2025 funding prospectus.
Project Background
- In 2013, Council commissioned Pitt & Sherry to develop a detailed concept design report for the pathway. A summary of this report is below.
- Originally estimated at $9.15 million, the project cost has been revised to $17.5 million in today’s dollars, reflecting updated construction cost indexes.
Project Objectives
- Enhance sustainable transport options.
- Improve connectivity between Tolosa Park, Tolosa Mountain Bike Park, and the Glenorchy CBD.
- Promote healthier lifestyles and active recreation across the region.
Strategic Value
The Humphrey’s Rivulet Path will be a transformational addition to Glenorchy’s active transport infrastructure, supporting the growing needs of residents and visitors while aligning with Council’s long-term vision for a connected, healthy, and sustainable city.
Funding Update
As a contribution towards the broader project, in 2025 the Australian Government are providing a $1.7 million grant to:
- stabilise creek backs to prevent erosion and protect water quality.
- remove invasive weeds.
- replant native vegetation to restore biodiversity and provide animal habitats.
- establish new picnic facilities and interpretive signage at the Chapel Street waterfall.
We’ll keep you updated on this project along the way!
