Planning and building

Planning approval and building approval are two separate processes.

You do often need both planning and building approvals if you are changing or developing your property, but these are done as separate applications.

The planning process mainly looks at the impacts of a proposed use or development on neighbouring land, while building approval is about the quality and standards of a building and if they meet the Building Code of Australia and the Plumbing Regulations.
